Bobby Allison to Appear

The Carlisle GM Nationals has seen a great array of special guests, attendees and vehicles onsite since its inception in 2001. This year’s event, June 21-23 at the Carlisle (Pennsylvania) Fairgrounds, will welcome multiple special displays onto its showfield and play host to one of the most famous names in NASCAR racing history – Bobby Allison.

Allison is a legend in the motorsports world, with a career in NASCAR that spanned over 700 races between 1961 and 1988. During that period, he won 84 races, three of which came in the Daytona 500. Allison was born in south Florida, but made his name as part of the “Alabama Gang,” a group comprised of his brother Donnie and some friends. Before jumping to racing’s top circuit in the ’60s, Allison raced with his brother and fellow friend Red Farmer at tracks in and around his new hometown of Hueytown, Alabama. Allison’s career continued into the late 1980s but ended in 1988 with an unfortunate accident at Pocono Raceway. Allison also endured the tragic loss of both sons, Clifford in 1992 and Davey in 1993.

Following the conclusion of his career, he was inducted into the Motorsports of America Hall of Fame in 1992, the International Motorsports Hall of Fame in 1993 and the NASCAR Hall of Fame in Charlotte in 2011. Allison has also been a car owner in NASCAR, a spokesman and ambassador for various companies and in 2009 was the honorary starter for the Daytona 500. His appearance at Carlisle will include a car raced during his final season, a 1988 Buick, with Miller High Life as its primary sponsor.

“Having a guest as important to NASCAR and the culture surrounding it in the person of Bobby Allison is both an honor and a privilege,” noted Carlisle GM Nationals event manager Tyler Staley. “Mr. Allison’s presence will certainly mean a lot to our participants, vendors and staff at Carlisle Events. We’re anxious to have him here this summer to be part of the event and welcome him with open arms to America’s Automotive Hometown.”

Allison will be available Saturday only for a limited engagement and will meet with as many fans as possible during his time onsite. In addition to Allison, the GM Nationals host a great collection of cars spanning over 100 years of history. The event features a great showfield, vendors, indoor displays, food and more.
